The New York City ABC affiliate had warned last week it would cut its signal if Cablevision did not start paying for its popular programming by 12:01 this morning. It made good on its threat, affecting 3 million Cablevision subscribers in New Jersey, New York and Connecticut.
"Cablevision has betrayed you again," said a message from WABC, which flashed on television sets across New Jersey just after the deadline passed. "Enough is Enough!"
As of early this morning, the status of the negotiations was unclear, as neither company returned phone calls seeking comment.
The cable operator urged Disney-ABC Television Group "not to pull the plug" during negotiations over retransmissions fees. It said Disney is demanding $40 million in fees for ABC — a figure ABC disputes — which would be passed on to subscribers.
