RIVERSIDE, Calif.—A 54-year-old Orange County man has died five days a Riverside County sheriff's deputy shot him with a Taser near Hemet.
Authorities say Lawrence Rosenthal of Placentia died Thursday after being hospitalized for several days in critical condition.
Sheriff's officials say deputies responded to a call on Aug. 2 and found Rosenthal running in and out of traffic, claiming he was on fire.
According to a sheriff's report, Rosenthal became confrontational with deputies and one of them used a 50,000-volt Taser dart to subdue him. Rosenthal was taken to Hemet Valley Hospital with labored breathing and an undisclosed medical condition.
Sheriff's officials say they will investigate the death. It could take up to eight weeks for a full autopsy report to be available.
Another taser death.
Undisclosed medical condition. Claiming he was on fire. Couldn't these idiots just tackle him instead of killing him? Yes Digits. Another taser death.
