Fiji Daily Post Journalist questioned by Police for Reporting on Alleged Police Brutality

Fiji's Daily Post newspaper has criticised police for interrogating one of its journalists over his coverage of a high-profile case of alleged police brutality.

Post reporter Isaac Lal spent six hours answering police questions about his story on a prison escapee who suffered severe injuries when recaptured.

Daily Post editor Mesake Koroi told Radio Australia's Pacific Beat program he's very concerned by the police action.

"Why do they need to investigate this? If it's a simple case of misquoting or misreporting then there are certain issues and procedures to be followed," he said.

"If it really goes badly, then there is civil litigation, rather than a crime case. That's the thing that baffles me."
