Adorable Photoshopped Photos

Adorability. A digital recreation - using Photoshop - from an average photo of "Lil Bit" sitting on the bed.

Feet. Using Photoshop, I simply "Desaturated" the color from the photo.

Twisted Kitty. In the spirit of our discussing what being a Leo meant, she decided she wanted me to make her a kitty like one of my Twisted Whiskers stickers. So I used "Liquify" and colored in the rest.

Rap Star. I lowered the saturation in the background to make her pop in the foreground.

advertisement

I like taking photos with my digital camera and what I may like more than that is altering them in Photoshop for different projects, effects, or even for web animations or fun. Yesterday I was compiling some photos of my beloved's daughter into one area. The result of doing that was this first photo turned digital art on the right.

Adorability

I'm sure you've seen those internet posters often expressing a flip sentiment. That's where I got the idea of "Adorability." I made the background a sepia in order to not confuse the subject from the busy pattern of the bedspread. Then I simply added text. I went further with this one, turning it more fun and games by making it into an animation which you can witness here.

Feet

In "Feet" because I did not want to detract from the subject of her sweet face coming through her feet, I really thought this photo could benefit from being a Black and White. Now I know a lot of people go a little into *edgy territory* and like to B/W everything they do but not me. There are specific reasons why I will Black and White or desaturate or amp up the saturation or even make a background into a sepia-hue. Going from full on color to black and white, is best done when color is not even within the realm of being an issue in the photo. In this case, this is true.

Notice the bedeviled toothy grin coming from between her awesomely cute feet. One is not distracted by color and the eye seems to start precisely with the feet going inward to her grin.

I think the results are beautiful.

Twisted Kitty

'Lil Bit' and I were hanging out and going through some of the photos and movies I have of her. After getting into a conversation of why a kitty on my bookmark and sticker looked "funny" I asked if she wanted me to do that to her. So we found this picture and it took less than 30 seconds in Photoshop.

Notice that this is the original image and it has all the colors my camera intended. Nothing is added or taken away from the original. Because I was going to simply add a face, in this case I did not see how it could have benefitted from black and white. Since I was going to *Twist* her in the image, I would actually want the colors to differentiate from the before and after and for the exaggerated *Twisted* features to pop.

I made a duplicate layer so as to not offend the original layer and then went into liquify. I selected a brush size that would be about the size of the eyes I would want. Then I used 'bloat' on each eye. I then selected 'pucker' and puckered the nose. I also puckered the mouth a little and then 'bloated' the upper part of the mouth until it looked right.

She was delighted and laughed at her new 'face' but I did not stop there. I went in, freehand and added some whiskers and colored the nose in pink. Voila. She is now one Twisted Whisker herself. Almost. :)

Rap Star

This photo was nearly perfect in the first place. From the motion blur to that candid pose, it's about my favorite photograph of her using my Kodak Digital camera. She loves to wear one of her white tank tops because that's a staple of my house wear. So when I put the cap on her to complete her look for a pose, I did not know she would really live the role. She did. She brought it to life. So I call it "Rap Star" due to the cute sassy she seems to be emoting so clearly for the camera.

But because I cannot leave well enough alone - and why should I? ;) - I wanted the focus of the image to be squarely on her. The background lends nothing to the photo and although I could have gotten rid of the background altogether, there would have been the question, "And then turn it what color?" or "Replace it with what?" In this situation, then, I thought that simply desaturating the background using the mask tool was best. And that's all I did here.

Because of the desaturation of the non-important background and with the white tank top she dons, I think the blue cap on backwards, along with her lovely hair sets the perfect framework for her "Lil Bit the Rap Star" persona.

About the Model

Her real name will not be divulged on the internet for safety reasons so her nickname is "Lil Bit." In real life her nickname is something else. :) She does not model professionally and I feel I have to add that since she's so darn cute and photogenic. She's your regular 4 [almost 5] year old and likes blowing bubbles, picking flowers, and running through sprinklers. She does not like lizards, spiders or caterpillars. Her favorite food is broccolli.

About the Photographer & Artist

I do not take photographs professionally but I do do photo restoration and other photography related work for friends and relatives. I have been involved with computer graphics and animations since 1996 and have been altering photography since 2003. I hope you enjoyed these renditions. It's my first display on Newsvine.

Thanks Mark! It's fun. Doing my little funnies with photos brings me great satisfaction and especially since we've moved and I've not unpacked my paints, charcoal, paper, and so forth. Well. As long as it's artistic, I say it doesn't matter which media I use!

Yep!

I remember the days when I could still use adorability with my grandparents. They were so much fun!
It makes me wish I had access to a scanner. Then I could share some pictures of myself during that phase of life... Sittin' on my grandpa's knee, wearing a shirt that says 'Here Comes Trouble.' Serious adorability. ;-)

Thank you Pixie. :) Thank you Spooky! :)

It is so funny and so true. [Honestly though. The adorability works on me too. ::sigh:: But I think as parental units we have to stand firm so it's necessary we try to overlook it.]

I made the mistake once of exclaiming out loud when she did a sad big eyed pout... "OH my gosh! That is so SWEET! What's wrong honey?" Well. Guess what her favorite face is now when things aren't quite going her way? Haha!

Adorability is not to be underestimated! A powerful weapon indeed!

Nice Work ! I am debating going from Aperture 2.1 and Lightroom up to the full PhotoShop CS3, the price and learning curve sound a little scary, but sure love the results !

Tedd: those apps are not mutually exclusive. CS3 works well in addition to either Aperture or Lightroom.

That is somewhat what I am hearing. I have PhotoShop Elements 6.0 on the PC and Mac (the mac version has some nice pieces from the full CS3) and LightRoom works on both.

I am trying the Demo CS3 and its nice, I am just wondering how long to master it. But does a beautiful job with my Nikon D-80 and RAW formats. Right now, just all the millions of combinations are overwhelming.

But....I am sure learning towards it when I see the results !

Are you using CS3 gecko ? I was thinking you were good with Aperture ?

I primarily use Aperture, but do some additional post-processing in CS3 when necessary.

Tedd, I am using PS 6 in those above. :)

Truly. People often think I am on CS2 when I get into more complicated graphics or photo renditions but just like in Photoshop 6.0, I think one actually has to have some kind of understanding of the program [CS2]. It's not going to do magic *for* a person. A person has to want the magic and then become willing to learn the applications in order to get to that magic. [CS2, like PS6 isn't going to make one talented...yet I hear people thinking CS2 *will.* I admit, with that price tag, I'd expect it to make me magical too! LoL]

I have heard CS2 is the way to go but yes I have heard many things about the learning curve myself and along with the hefty price-tag? Uh. That's a negatory for me. If Adobe's so proud of their CS2 they can just as well keep it.

NOT to mention that with PS 6, it still has ImageReady [animation tool] built in so that one can just *jump to it* while in the original image. They do away with that in CS 2 I hear.

PS6 isn't going to make one talented.

I know that feeling well....I have taught some photo classes over the years and of course always hear about getting the best camera will somehow take better photo's......However in the real world it does not really work that way, the person has to be the creative one and the software is the tool.

I have not kept up on all the many versions of Photoshop, there are so many out their.....

Thanks for the comments and cute kid !

Peas are mother nature's dingleberries.

Try this if you don't like asparagus:

Rinse and shake a bunch of asparagus. Spread out in a 9x13 baking pan. Drizzle with some melted butter and shake some italian-seasoned bread crumbs over the spears. Wiggle them around a bit so that they're mostly all dusted with the crumbs. Top with some fresh-grated parmesan. Bake for about 20 minutes or so (cover if getting too browned but the asparagus is still too hard).

Mmmm.

I got asparagus for breakfest lunch and dinner when I lived in Germany, the yellow stuff. After 5 years of it every day....It got old...

I kid you not. It IS her favorite food. She eats it and will say, "Look. I can even eat broccolli without cheese on it!" ;)

Viki's recipe sounds great as I am an asparagus lover myself. I have never tried yellow though, Tedd. Same taste as green? OH...and you've not been to heaven yet until you've had my Mom's asparagus casserole. It's cheesy, melted goodness!

[...will have your tee-tee smelling for days though...]

The Yellow I think is almost unique to Germany, its pretty bland and stringy....Also known as "Depression Days Asparagus" as nobody else wants to buy the stuff and is the cheapest and usually the last to be sold out of. So basically...The leftovers..

From the 1930's era. If you saw the shade yellow, you would understand why....Pretty bland stuff, looks like cornmeal yellow.
