3 city cops: Call 'em Compassion, Kindness, Love

Little Talo Joe's family fell upon hard times. They spent Talo's first birthday on blankets in a salvage yard. With the help of three Tucson police officers, this family is now receiving help from the Gospel Rescue Mission to secure temporary housing until they can get back on their feet.
His birthday celebration, made possible by Officers Thomas Gonzales, Matthew Timpf and Christopher Miller, came just two days after the boy turned 1 — the same day his parents were evicted from a motel where they had been staying since September.
"We discovered that they had just been evicted and that little Talo had just turned 1 and he spent his birthday on the street," said Gonzales, a father of three. "We were thinking that it's just not right that he didn't have a first birthday party, so we decided to take a collection in our squad."
The officers also made numerous phone calls to Mervyn's, Wal-Mart, Peter Piper Pizza and the Mayor's Office, all of which contributed to Talo's party through the donation of clothing, shoes, toys, diapers, a cake and discounts on pizza.

Now see. This is what being a police officer is about to me. In some alternate world of news I continue seeing, this family would have been jailed for loitering. It's good to finally see some of this getting written about. It's really about time.
I do NOT believe the world is made of mean people. I believe MOST people want to exhibit their kindness. But the media is almost loathe to focus on stories like this it seems.
Officers, I salute you!

I completely agree with you. The media doesn't like these stories because it doesn't bring as much interest. They can't write super interesting headlines for these sorts of stories unlike many other types of stories.

And this is dangerous for me. I start thinking that's all that is *out there.* And how depressing and scary is that? These seeds I have been finding as of late...the effort involved in finding them is a lot more concentrated than finding the bad news. I know you are not surprised. ;)

I would believe that they're extremely hard to find.
And this is dangerous for me. I start thinking that's all that is *out there.*
I think a lot of people would start to think like this when all they see are article about people doing things like murdering some one or robbing some one.
Especially since a lot of the media's language is to play on our values to spark a reaction and get us to continue to reading. Articles about compassion simply can't play on our values as well as others can.
It'd be nice if the media concentrated on both sides. at least to some degree. :)

Rottlady, thank you. I found myself becoming spiritually and emotionally dis-eased with all the seeding of police brutality. Too much time in that kind of thought-meme and I can really start thinking the entire world is a bad place. ...and it's not. My entire REAL life world view expresses the opposite thought.
